    Dear Uncle Chye Tong,

The last I saw you was at the Rehab Centre and you despite your discomfort, put on that big smile to greet me when I walked in...I thought my next visit would be you showing me around your new retirement home.

Like the rests of the nephews and nieces, you have touched my life ...your concern went even to Charmaine. Thanks Uncle. Thanks for cheering me on to run my race well. We shall meet again someday. Hugs, Uncle.

My mum misses you and Uncle Chee Tong.

    Love from your niece Judy

    To my beloved Sook Kong

Thank you for checking in on your grandniece as you would do your own daughter with your cheery calls reminding me to eat well, sleep well and more importantly to take the time to smell the flowers, despite a busy and demanding career.

Thank you for always packing food for me so that I will not go hungry and always ensuring I’m at all family events in Perth keeping us all close knit.

In short, thank you for stepping in and being my “Kong Kong” and actively playing such a significant role in my life. I’m so glad you got to meet Anand and that we got to serve you tea at our wedding.

I will miss your cheery voice, your concern for me, your midnight calls and your half finished WhatsApp’s, but I truly wish you peace and a joyful reunion with our dearly departed in Heaven.

Fare Thee Well Sook Kong Chye Tong. I miss you dearly.

    REMINISCENCES OF A DEAR UNCLE

    16.3.21

How painful it is to let you go, how can I say good-bye?

You who always had me and my siblings on your heart.

Who was ever concerned about our welfare.

Who came bearing gifts for us kids during your university breaks.

All who came into contact with you knew you as a kind and generous person; always caring and compassionate.

You are a man of few words but your actions speak louder than any word can. I will ever remember your good deeds done in your own inimitable way.

Yes, it is hard to say good-bye

But I am proud to be able to relate to one and all, the kind of person you have been to all.

And to know from my mum that my name “Josephine” came from you, beats it all.
