SMITH JOHN KENDALL John, to some known as Ken, passed away peacefully on the 13th of November 2019.

Beloved husband of Elizabeth, devoted father of Noel, Dale and Graham. Dearest grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

We will miss Ken, our family man, who was ever protective, ever thoughtful and ever resourceful. He made his ‘girls' and the ladies of his life always feel happy. A true gentleman. You will be missed by your Betty. Rest in Peace.

Thank you Dad, for showing me how a man lives life, in the service of family and loved ones.

Rest now, knowing, that those left behind loved you, for your candid directness and guidance, which will not be wasted, in our future endeavors.

    Your loving Son,

  • SMITH (John):

I am truly proud to be one of Ken Smith’s granddaughters. It was a privilege to have someone in my life always be that guardian for me.

I remember the days when I was in primary school I would go to Nan and Pop's house for dinner most school nights in the week. There was always a comment or two on how much tomato sauce was added to my plate, but at the end of the meal Pop and I would always play a game I like to call ‘hand towers’ together. It is where one of us would place our hand on the table, then the next person would put theirs on top, and so on, gradually getting faster and faster. We would play this every dinner time before he did the dishes. Sometimes he would win, sometimes not, but it was a game we played for years after even as adults with no words necessary to commence the next round.

Pop was the man who bought me my first bunch of flowers. He wanted to be the first gentleman of my life to buy me flowers. He also told me wise words of what to look out for in a man, and when to run for the hills.

And now I take peace in that you’re at rest. Like the headstrong, stubborn and resourceful man that you are, you pushed through everyday head on. Since I moved away to study and to work Pop would always say he thought of me daily and was wondering how I was doing. I’d always think of Pop too, but now it’s time for me to always think of him daily and keep his memories warm. You were truly the best and most loving Pop I could’ve ever asked for, and I was so thankful I could share these as my final words with you in the hours before you passed. All your ladies will miss you dearly.

    Rest In Peace pop x
