Obituary Guest Book 7 Messages

Our beloved Bimmy has slipped away peacefully. Suddenly the world is a very different place. Mother to Mark, Joel and Julie. Mother-in-law of Adele, Sue and Linda. Mentor and moral compass to her devoted grandchildren Thomas, Ruth and Luke. Bimmy, you have been an inspiration to us all during your long and rewarding life. You will continue to be our guiding spirit. Our heartfelt gratitude to all at Koh I Noor. Steve, Anna, Jennie and staff who always treated our mother with respect and dignity. Wherever you are darling we hope the coffee's good.

  • SANGSTER (Meg):

The last of the gracious ladies in my life. Loved sister in law of Florance Sangster.... both ladies who I held in great esteem. We laughed, we lamented, we shared. I was so blessed to know Meg.

    RIP beautiful lady.

Condolences to all of Meg's family. Her book about Mary Raine remains one of the most endearing we have read. Thank you for that gift, Meg. RIP. Members of the Mukinbudin Book Club.

  • SANGSTER MEG A tribute to the exceptional life of Meg, successful business- woman and talented author whose wisdom and philosophy were inspirational.

A cherished friendship with Meg began during my early days with the Raine Foundation when we were delighted to find a direct link to Mary Raine. In the years that followed Meg would recall stories of life at the Wentworth and subsequent years managing the Hotel Windsor, but there was much more to this remarkable woman. Meg's outstanding literary talent is evident in her biography of Mary Raine - a major work which captures the life-story of her dear friend and business partner and paints a nostalgic picture of Perth in the mid-twentieth century.

It was a privilege to know Meg and to be her friend. My heartfelt sympathy to Mark, Joel, Julie and their extended family.

Vale Meg - A life of love and generosity. Treasured memories. Lyn

  • SANGSTER MEG We are forever grateful for the extraordinary mind of Meg Sangster and her passion for relaying the life and achievements of Mary Raine. Meg and her late husband, Eric (Cole) Sangster became close friends with Mary and Joe Raine when they moved to WA from NSW in 1948. Mary Raine was an astute businesswoman who owned a large portfolio of property and hotels, including the Wentworth and Windsor Hotels. Meg and Cole initially stayed at the Wentworth Hotel when they arrived in WA, which was then managed by, and home to, Mary and Joe Raine. They soon became close friends and in 1949 Mary and Joe asked Meg and Cole to manage the Windsor Hotel. This was an overwhelming but exciting offer for the young couple who soon accepted the challenge and later the leasehold of the Hotel. Meg and Cole were instrumental in turning business around for the Windsor Hotel and soon introduced the concept of the beer garden and jugs of beer to WA. Meg and Cole soon welcomed their firstborn son, Mark, to the world, and later another son, Joel, and daughter Julienne. Meg authored and published "The Mary Raine Story - From Putney to Perth" in 2001, recounting the extraordinary life and times of Mary Raine, and Meg's personal journey as an unexpected but hugely successful hotelier in WA.

Deepest condolences to Mark, Joel, Julienne, and extended family. Meg will forever be remembered as a strong and passionate supporter of the Raine Medical Research Foundation in upholding Mary Raine's vision of finding cures for human disease.
