RUTHERFORD (JOHN)
Deepest sympathy to Sharnee, Jaye and Witon on the loss of their father John. Hazel and I probably first met John and Beth at the Uniting Church Merredin where we attended just after 1960. John had joined the Staff of Merredin High School Maths. John and Beth had joined the Church Congregation just in time for John to provide valuable assistance for the rebuilding of the Church in Brick. Besides becoming a popular teacher, John became very active in other community activities such as Shire Counsellor, a very active member of the Railway Museum Committee including the erecting of a bronze statue of a farmer, horse and plough. Not all of John's life was plain sailing when in 1998 his wife Beth fell ill and passed away. Sometime later John remarried to Maria and then fate struck again when Maria died a few years after they moved to a new home. To finish on a brighter note, John had a very good cricket career at Merredin, the highlight perhaps being his 211 runs in the Country Week final against Albany in 1965 for a win.
