QUINLAN MICHAEL Michael Francis Quinlan (22.05.1938 - 02.10.2020)

Passed from this life unexpectedly on 2 October 2020 following a brief illness at his cherished St John of God Hospital Subiaco.

Beloved and devoted husband of Carole. Ever loving father to Tim, Peter, Anthony, Annabelle and Gaby and father-in-law to Jenny, Lucette, Tini, Mick and Max. Proud and doting grandfather to Oliver, Annabelle, Gabe, Harper, Audrey, Jude, Lux, Lochie, Lexi, Neve, Noah, Leo, Sophia and Milla.

A man of unbounded faith, love and compassion, who touched and healed countless lives. He was a gift to us and our gift to the world.

He will never be forgotten.

Thank you to Dr Philip Cooke and all the staff at St John's.

The Funeral Mass for Dr Michael Quinlan AO of Nedlands will be celebrated in St Joseph's Catholic Church, 3 Salvado Rd, Subiaco commencing at 10:00am on THURSDAY (15.10.2020).

A Private Burial Service will be held at KARRAKATTA Cemetery.

A public Vigil Mass will be offered in St Joseph's Catholic Church, Salvado Rd, Subiaco at 7:00pm WEDNESDAY (14.10.2020)

    Professor Michael Quinlan AO

    A treasured colleague, respected, admired, full of integrity. His accomplishments are many, but his enduring commitment to philanthropy unmeasured.

    His vision for the SJOG Murdoch Hospice, SJOG Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Notre Dame Medical School. Michael was at the first meeting that gave birth to WAIMR now the Harry Perkins Medical Research Institute. He showed courage and inspired all present to embark on this visionary project and so many more.

    Michael will be immeasurably missed.

    It has been an honour to have known Professor Michael Quinlan who has been a major supporter of Alzheimer's Research conducted at the Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation (AARF). He contributed in so many ways including as a Board Member of AARF, as the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee and as the Chair of the Clinical Governance Committee and as an outstanding mentor to me as Director of Research. He will be fondly remembered by our entire research team for his considerable intellect, generosity of spirit, high integrity and kindness to all. May he rest in eternal peace.

    I feel privileged, like so many, to have known and worked with Prof Quinlan who was always so incredibly supportive and loyal during my term as Chairman of the Australian Alzheimer's Research Foundation.

    His considerations were reflective, measured and constructive, maintaining a key focus on the quality of research, care and wellbeing at all times. He was a person of high integrity, faith and values, humble and warm in his approach and attitude, wise in his counsel and treating everyone as an equal. He led by example and his words were matched by his actions, his care and his valued contributions.

    Respected and respectful, Prof Quinlan touched the lives of so many people and he leaves an outstanding legacy of service and commitment in his many distinguished areas of involvement. He leaves me with fond memories of a cherished friendship.

  • QUINLAN MICHAEL The University of Notre Dame would like to extend its deepest sympathies to Carole Quinlan and the rest of the family on the sad passing of Dr Michael Quinlan. The entire University community is mourning with you.

    Dr Quinlan's contribution to the initiation, establishment and development of the University of Notre Dame Australia was profound. He served on its original Planning Board, as an inaugural Trustee and Governor, as Foundation Dean of the College of Health, and the first Professor of Medicine at the University. Often referred to as a founding father and Trustee of the University, Dr Quinlan was appointed Chancellor in 2008 until retiring from the role in 2011.

    We will miss his immense wisdom, care and loyalty to the University.
