  • O'CONNOR TERRY Much admired and respected brother-in-law of Bill (dec).

Terry was an inspirational family member who faced so many challenges without complaint. His dry wit and astute perceptions of people and situations kept the country cousins on their toes.

Terry now that you are with The Almighty, I would suggest you remind Him that I am responsible for teaching you those few swear words which enabled you to get a few points across to the brilliant worldwide workforce we created over the past 25 years.

  • O'CONNOR (TERRY)

The passing of Terry O'Connor QC on Anzac Day, after an extraordinary life in the service of others, is a great loss to The University of Notre Dame Australia. Terry was one of the Founders of the University and played an essential part in its leadership and development as Chancellor from 1990 to 2004. During that time the University grew to 5,000 students and had campuses in Fremantle and Broome with an agreement to establish one in Sydney in 2006. In 2018, the University was honoured to bestow upon him an Honorary Doctorate of Laws. An eminent member of the WA legal profession, Terry was made QC in 1987 and was also Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission 1987-2003. His contribution to the community also extended to football as Chairman of The West Coast Eagles Football Club from 1988-1993 and AFL Commissioner from 1993-2001. Other areas of service included St John of God Healthcare, Chairman of John XXIII College from 1978-1992 and other areas of business including finance and mining sectors. In 2006 he received an Order of Australia for his service to the community in these various roles. A man of strong faith and values he was dedicated to his family. The University extends its prayers and condolences to the O'Connor family and in particular his wife Annabel and children Dimity and Simon.

A man of faith, vision and commitment.
