  • McNEIL (Thomas):

The legacy of Thomas McNeil will live on in every footballer playing the great game of AFL today. He championed the very first meeting of what is now called the AFL Players Association. The freedoms, protections and income security modern players enjoy today can be traced back to his first meeting in Victoria in 1957. As an MP in the WA government he fought for even more player freedoms - and he won. He was a champion of the man not the industry, a champion of the battler not the business, and he fought to protect families, fishermen and farmers from big industry. Vale Tom McNeil.
