Michael was an intelligent and outstanding Econometrician to whom I met at Monash University in 1987. Latest he asked me to propose a special issue on Islamic Finance for the journal of Risk and Financial Management. May Allah place his soul in heaven.

I have only just heard of Mike’s death. Mike and I wrote a few papers together. These were a miniscule part of his vast output. Moreover, I was a miniscule part of the total number of his co-authors. He was an extraordinary motivator of students and other researchers. The work covers a vast range of topics. He was by far the most published Australian econometrician. Mike was a larger-than life character and there have been endless stories recounted by him, and others, of his exploits. I was always amazed by Mike’s energy and enthusiasm. He made a difference.
