My thoughts are with John’s family at this sad time. It’s the memories that are important and from a personal perspective John was a calm considered person who I had the privilege to know. From an Australian apple industry perspective, no other individual has had such an impact on the value of grower returns in our history, internationally Cripps Pink was the basis for a complete change in apple production and marketing, and the story continues…
Sincerest and deepest condolences on the passing of John Ernest Lane Cripps.
He was a most valued and highly respected work colleague while working in the Horticulture Division at the Dept of Agriculture for many years. Always a gentleman with a unique sense of humour. Rest in eternal peace.

Council, Staff and Members of The Royal Agricultural Society of WA
A pioneering apple breeder who will be remembered as the "Father of the Pink Lady". John led the apple breeding program at the former Department of Agriculture that developed the iconic Cripps Pink and Red varieties that put WA fruit on the international stage. A great mentor to staff, who continue his legacy in breeding new uniquely WA apples.
Sincere condolences to the Cripps family and current and former staff.
