  • CONROY (Michael):

Michael and Susan Conroy were married on 19th September 1970 and had just recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Here they are on that magical day all those years ago.

  • CONROY (Michael):

Michael Conroy was a quiet and unassuming man. He had a dry sense of humour, that was definitely something to get used to - but once you got to know him, then he was immensely funny and threw in a 'Dad' joke into most conversations.

When I was 17, Mum and Reg (my step Dad) were away and Uncle Mick (Conroy) had been asked by Mum to fix a retaining wall at our house. This fact I did NOT know and after a boozy night of Passion Pop and Ricadonna, me and my friends thought we were quite smart in creating a wall of empty bottles. We were woken to the sound of a cement mixer and a happy whistling tune. Uncle Mick was sitting on the outdoor swing seat smoking a cigarette and laughing as I came out looking very hungover - he said "How much are you going to pay me to not tell your Mother?" My jaw hit the ground, as I stumbled to find the right answer for Uncle Mick. He settled for me making him a coffee and keeping the house tidy for Mum. Thanks Uncle Mick for never dobbing me in.

He was a fantastic father and I still remember how proud both he and Aunty Sue were when we were first introduced to Adam. As a small boy, Adam would give us the weather report during the news on TV and Uncle Mick would be boast to us all about his very bright boy. How proud he has always been of his son, Adam you are a lucky man to have had a loving father for so many years.

    Travel well Uncle Mick xxx
