Hubert (Bert) Constance:
In memory of the Grandfather we never met or knew. Bert was born in Coolgardie to Hubert Joseph Cook and Louise Cook (nee Voumard). He married Eva Manuel in Boulder in 1915. Their Son, Alan Ronald Cook was born in Coolgardie 22.12.1915. Bert enlisted in 16th Infantry Battalion on 15.03.1917. Eva, aged 21, died of meningitis in Perth 06.10.1917 while Bert was training at Blackboy Hill. Bert embarked at Fremantle for France 24.11.1917 where he joined his unit on 17.04.1918. He was killed near Villers Brettoneaux on 16.06.1918, aged 21. He has no grave, his remains were never found, leaving his Son an orphan, to be brought up by Eva's Sister, Lil. Alan had 9 children (8 surviving).
