MAIN (Dr Barbara ):
Mum told us how Barbara used to have pet spiders in her youth, and they had to be careful not to squash them...... We have good memories visiting her family in our youth.

Her passion for the natural environment, especially her dedication to documenting the spiders and other invertebrate inhabitants of Australia, has left a consummate scientific and literary legacy.

MAIN DR BARBARA YORK Condolences to Monica and family. I will always be grateful for her supervision and encouragement. RIP.
MAIN BARBARA YORK The School of Biological Sciences, UWA, was very saddened to hear of the passing of Adjunct Professor York Main, OAM. Known as the Lady of the Spiders, she gained her PhD in Zoology in 1956, being the first female to do so. A quiet and graceful achiever, she worked until recently, lighting up our lives with her passion and wonder for the animal world. She will be much missed. Our thoughts are with her family.
