Aunty Pat Keenan and the descendants of Naynaygurrk (aka Eliza Nowen) offer condolences for the loss of a clever woman who, over may years, helped our family to track our past. She worked generously on several of our projects and was a wonderful source of information. Kabarli will be missed by our community.

We never met, Jan and I, just briefly by email, for only about 4 weeks, before her sudden passing. We were about to research the Northam Cemetery for the 'whereabouts' of my GGGrandfather George Beames, died 15 Nov 1906. It is only recently that Family had found information that he is buried there, prior to this we did not have a clue to where he was buried, we thought it was Port Augusta, South Australia, but this could not be sourced. Imagine our excitement to find he was buried at Northam, which in turn, led us to Jan. What amazes me about Jan is the fact she was still prepared to do all she could to help me in our research, right up to the day that she was admitted to Hospital. This goes to show the dedication she had to the Avon Valley Cemeteries and the resolve to connect today's family with their past history. I was saddened to hear of Jan's passing, I was so looking forward to future conversations with Jan, maybe even to meet with her one day, but was not to be. R.I.P Janice James.

Over the years Jan James helped me - and many other family history researchers who had Avon Valley connections. I will always remember her tenacity, attention to detail - and boundless enthusiasm that allowed us all to reconnect with our past. Thank you Jan. You will be remembered - and your achievements will be celebrated.
