  • HARTLEY (Bruce):

A great PhD supervisor though there were often more discussions about red wine than the project! Great memories of walks through southern WA tall forests and discussions on multiple topics.

Thanks Bruce, you guided me though those studies and left me with ongoing skills.

  • HARTLEY (Bruce):

A true believer in the intrinsic virtue of science, and deeply respected for his willingness to provide wise counsel to younger graduate students. I personally benefitted greatly from having Bruce as my immediate predecessor in John Swan's group in the late 1960's. A trip to Perth in recent years has always included lunch with Bruce and Merv; invariably Bruce would share his views on the topic of the day, punctuated with wit but sparing no quarter for those whom he held responsible for the imperfections of society. One of those people whose loss will reverberate for a long time.

  • HARTLEY BRUCE Farewell to one of our Clubs most loved, admired and respected friends. Doc brought intelligence, wit, humour and a great deal of stiff resistance to our batting line-up. The Club is so sad right now but will always be a richer group for having Bruce as one of us. The beautiful Life Member. Love ya Bruce - from everyone at Leederville Cricket Club
