With our heartfelt and deepest sympathies to the beautiful Gunther family and all who loved and cared for Stephen. Thought of as a true gentleman. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time. Karen and Adam Goodbody
I remember you as a mighty man. As a hero.
In the mid-90s, you, me and my two small boys drove from Canberra to Sydney. I planned to visit my Mum and run the City to Surf. You came along for the ride and to hang out. Stopping half way at Sutton Forest McDonalds, I lost sight of the bumbag containing my wallet and car keys. I was perplexed and trying not to panic about where they had gone and how, if we couldn't find them, we'd get home from the middle of nowhere, in the dark, with two toddlers. No one came to our aid, but you saw what was happening and forced your way through a group of four or five young men sitting nearby to grab a paper takeaway bag from their table. My bumbag was stuffed inside it. Those gutless blokes scarpered. We bought our Maccas and drove safely on. I'll never forget that mate.
Another time, you were with me at the end of a significant positive chapter in my life. I struggled with thoughts and feelings typical of ending a good thing. You helped me look to the future with hope!
I will always remember these things, with thanks, and look forward to seeing you when we meet again in a bright, new Day.
Steve, your friendship, care and love will always be remembered. In the loving arms our Lord.
GUNTHER STEPHEN Steve, your kind spiritual and pastoral care to the Navy is remembered by many. Remain at peace.
