Saddened to hear that Cecil has passed away. He has been in my daily prayers for many many years since losing touch after my dear friend Jean's death. Thoughts and sympathy to his children and their families.

Cec’ was my first Chief Librarian and welcomed me to Scarborough Public Library In 1963. I was always impressed by his capabilities and character: warm, engaging and lively, a true gentleman. He was a great exemplar of a Librarian engaged with his vocation.

Dad, everything I am today I owe to you and your lovely Jean. How lucky I was to be a foster child in that little Scarborough house. I cherish my 50 year friendship with you and I will miss you terribly.

Cecil Florey was a fine man who will be long remembered for his many accomplishments and the person that he was. Cecil has a very special place in my personal story. In hiring me sight unseen for the Stirling libraries (from my post near Washington D.C.) my hope to migrate to Australia became a reality. The remainder of my career (some 43 years) unfolded here in the West.

To the family of Cec may I offer sincere condolences. I first crossed paths with Cec when I was a 9 year old girl cycling to the wonderful library in Royal Street Osborne Park, though I didn’t know him at the time I loved his library. Years later our paths crossed again when living in South Perth. Cec was an interesting and interested man who was a delight to know. He has left a precious legacy to South Perth with his many contributions and the wonderful book ‘Peninsular City’.

    Vale Cec Florey
