I only met Danny for one night, last Thursday night but Boy did he make an impression on me! I’ve never seen such a love of and zest for life and such a wicked sense of humour in a patient so very ill.
Daniel really managed to capture my heart in those hours and I could see and feel the overwhelming love for him from his brothers and his dad.
I feel so honoured to have met such a spirited and special guy. Danny certainly gave it his absolute all and I’m so so sorry he didn’t make it. In fact so many of the nurses had such a soft spot for him and he continues to be spoken about with such fondness on the ward.
In my thoughts ever since love Debbie xx
FELSTEAD (Danny): Dan, my good friend from way back when.
When we were all young and having a lot of fun.
I've got many memories of good times with Dan.
Dan was enthusiastic and an honest and straight talker.
Dan was passionate about the things he loved. His Mum, his brothers Sean and Simon and his footy -Collingwood and Nathan Buckley.
Dan also loved 'the band' inner city cave dwellers and he loved pool. Doubles pub pool.
We were a team Dan and me and nobody played pub pool with more passion than Dan.
I will always remember the signature arm pump after every ball potted. Small pump for the easy shots - Big pump for the big shots. The unbridled joy when we potted the black to win a game - usually marked by a solid 10 second arm pump and ecstatic roar.
It didn't matter if we were playing against nuns or hells angels the actions and reactions were the same.
Dan was often loud but he was also a very sensitive and caring friend. He was always interested in how you were feeling. I remember Dan coming up to me a week after the 1992 Grand Final where we had watched the West Coast Eagles run over the top of my team Geelong in the second half. He was feeling terrible because he thought he had been a bit over enthusiastic in his reaction to some of the goals the Eagles kicked and apologised to me for causing me even more grief.
That was Dan - enthusiastic follower of a game of footy but also a really kind hearted guy.
I'll never forget the good times we shared together.
Deepest condolences to Sean, Simon, Bindy and the whole Felstead family.
Rest in peace Dan.
Passed away peacefully aged 52. Beloved son of Mary (dec) and Alan. Much loved brother of Sean and Simon, brother-in-law of Bindi, uncle to Jacob, Lily, Liam and James.
Family would like to thank the caring staff and housemates at Tupelo House.
See you later Mate, we'll miss you, especially your sense of humour and your laugh.
