Oh Hal, I'm sorry you're gone so suddenly. I'm sorry I hadn't replied yet to your last email, and I support the poem you wrote on the hypocrisy of those dreadful monsters. You were an on again/off again penpal for over 30 years, I only just found out you have been taken from us. I hope you did not suffer, and I hope that if there is an afterlife, you are in Heaven writing poetry and hanging out with Paddy, on a boat, laughing and drinking on a perfect endless summer's day xxx

Thank you for being my Godfather and the multiple Kinder eggs you supplied. I still treasure the collection of toys and remember all the antics you and Paddy got up to, may you both find peace together. You will always be in my heart.

Lots of love, Your Goddaughter Clare xxx

Hal - you came door-knocking during your tilt at Parliament against "Fluff" Warnock. I opened the door and knew who you were... and you were fully suited and sweating profusely in the 39 degree heat. I thought- I'll vote for this man! He's willing to almost die to speak to his constituency." Legend, dude. And now I find you were a poet too...!

I had the fun of having Hal as a child hood mate. We spent hours fishing, walking around the Swan River, watching bird life at Pelican Point. He was kind, funny, he was like a big older brother.

He lived with us at the Parkway House after his mum died. I have not lived in WA for many years but I will miss him. I was happy when he married into an instant family, it made him very happy .

God bless your soul Hal,  Love Bec Obrien

A great patriot who has bequeathed many classic legacies to exceptional Australia and beyond eg his fervent support for political conservatism has always unsettled the left-wing, this will endure for future generations to evaluate. Our recent outings to Freshwaters, on the foreshore of Hal's beloved and poetical subject, the Swan River Estuary for coffee and donuts, are special memories of a long friendship.

Time stays, we go. In much sorrow and my deepest sympathy to Alexandra and family.

    Ian Argyle.
