    “What is dying?

    I am standing on the seashore.

    A ship sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean.

    She is an object and I stand watching her

    Till at last she fades from the horizon,

    And someone at my side says, “She is gone!” Gone where?

    Gone from my sight, that is all;

    She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her,

    And just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.

    The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her;

    And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “She is gone”,

    There are others who are watching her coming,

    And other voices take up a glad shout,

    “There she comes” – and that is dying.”

    Karen and I are thinking of you all at this incredibly sad time.

    Andris was a force of nature and we all have our own treasured memories of him.

    This photograph is one of mine. In the middle of the Sahara, somewhere near the Algeria/Niger border. Listening to Mozart on the tape player, eating pasta and putting the world to rights!

    Most fun loving, playful wonderful guy. Skiing in Davos was best when we had Andris. His many friends and close family will miss him terribly. Tragic loss. I heard today, Christmas day in California. I am still in shock. I will now think of Andris every Christmas day. My heart yearns for his family. Our close friends Elza and Robbie, Freya and Ingrid. Struggling for words. So many people miss you Andris.
